CBJ – Dec. 22 – Canada's population grew 0.4 per cent during this year's third quarter, with every province except Newfoundland and Labrador seeing a gain.

The national population grew to 34,238,000 as of Oct. 1, according to Statistics Canada's latest numbers as some provinces and territories saw their highest quarterly immigration levels since 1971. An estimated 84,200 immigrants arrived in Canada in the quarter, up 8,800 than Q3 2009, although a decrease in non-permanent residents dampened the annual gain.
