In November of 2010 Canadian Government announced that it will maintain high levels off immigration to help sustain economic recovery. Canada expects that within the next 5 years all of its labour force growth will come from immigration.

Canada's goal is to welcome between 240 000 and 265 000 new permanent residents in 2011. Sixty percent of all immigrants are expected to be admitted via the economic categories.

Immigration plan for 2011 also includes:
  • Higher admissions for spouses and children in the family category
  • An additional 1,125 refugees
  • Balancing of federally and provincially selected workers
