U.K. man facing year in jail before being deported

A man from the United Kingdom is slated to be deported from Canada after he completes a jail sentence for lying to immigration officials in Calgary.

A provincial court judge sentenced Cashawn Hirsi Dirie to a year in jail last Friday after he pleaded guilty to misrepresentation and using a fraudulently obtained document to remain in Canada. The offences are governed by the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.
