Population growth a challenge

Planning issues a concern for some

Saskatoon's population is expected to reach a record 234,200 by year's end, making it the fastest-growing city in Canada.

City officials say the trend is generally positive, but high home prices, urban sprawl, family doctor shortages and other issues cause some to wonder whether the city has planned for an expected multi-year period of growth.

"This is going to be a challenge. I'm not sure we're ready for it yet," said Anahit Falihi, manager of settlement programs for the Open Door Society.
